(in English) In Brillouin optical correlation-domain reflectometry (BOCDR), the length of the fiber under test (FUT) (i.e., the measurement range) is significantly limited because only one correlation peak should exist in the FUT. To solve this issue, some special schemes including temporal gating and double modulation have been developed to extend the measurement range while maintaining the spatial resolution, but some additional devices are required, leading to higher cost. In this study, we propose a “differential spectrum scheme” to measure the strain distribution near the distal end of the FUT in a range beyond the theoretical limit, when no strain is known to be applied to the other parts of the FUT. In this scheme, multiple correlation peaks are generated in the FUT, and the effect of the Brillouin scattered light returned from the correlation peaks outside the measurement section is suppressed by signal processing. This scheme is free from additional devices, resulting in improved cost efficiency.
