(in English) A multi-core fiber (MCF) with three times the core spacing of conventional fibers was developed for shape sensing of deformations with relatively small curvature in large line structures. To investigate the effects of differences in core spacing of MCFs and spatial resolutions of distributed strain sensing (DSS) on MCF shape sensing, simulations and experiments were conducted using two different DSS systems, OFDR and SDH-BOTDR. Quantitative evaluation of the agreement of experimentally reconstructed shapes suggests that each measurement system has different suitability for global and local shapes.
