Abstract Photonic crystals can operate in the millimeter-wave and terahertz-wave bands, making them a promising option to overcome the limitations of future electromagnetic circuits. In previous research, we designed a waveguide of MPhC with an air gap and explained that the resonance frequency can be controlled by adjusting the height of the air gap. This paper describes an MPhC structure with a dielectric layer (a structure in which a thin dielectric layer is inserted between a 2D MPhC metal cylinder and a metal plate on top) that can be fabricated by etching technology as a low-cost, high-precision PCB circuit processing technology. and designed a fifth-order in-line bandpass filter (BPF) with a microstrip type excitation port. We will compare the simulation results and the measurement results and examine the reasons for the errors.
