[Invited Talk] Autonomous control for forklifts utilizing a networked control system

(in English) In a warehouse where there are many moving objects such as people and vehicles, and static objects such as luggage and shelves, an autonomous forklift truck must process data from multiple sensor sources and make decisions instantaneously. Implementing such a complex algorithm in a forklift truck requires high computational power, which results in increased power consumption and design complexity. In recent years, rapid progress in communication technology has made it possible to implement complex processing on a remote-control server while minimizing the computational resources on the robot by employing a Networked Control System, in which the robot control is realized via a network. In this paper, we introduce an autonomous forklift control system based on the Networked Control System, in which the forklift is equipped with only sensors, actuators, and a small PC, and a remote controller server via a network realizes a complex transport task in a warehouse.
