Effect of pulse width modulation of illumination light on indoor photovoltaics
Kazuya Tada (Univ. Hyogo) OME2023-44
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) When we target the indoor use of solar cells, we have to consider the characteristics of indoor illumination light. Especially in recent years, solid-state lighting using LEDs has become the first choice and pulse-width modulation is often used for dimming. In pulse-width modulated illumination, the peak light intensity can be 100 times higher than the average. On the other hand, one of the reasons that indoor solar cells are "indoor" is that they have relatively high series resistance. For such solar cells, it is necessary to consider the effect of the voltage drop in the series resistance that occurs on the peak light intensity. In this report, the effect of pulse width modulation of illumination light on a commercial amorphous silicon solar cell as well as a commercial dye-sensitized solar cell is presented.
