[Invited Talk] Beyond 5G Edge Cloud for Multi-Domain Collaboration

(in English) The 5G system began worldwide in 2019 and comprises wireless access technologies and other critical technical elements. Among these, virtualization technology plays a crucial role. While it was predominantly deployed in the cloud domain, in recent years, services have started to be rolled out targeting mobile networks such as RAN and core components.
Moreover, the benefits of virtualization technology extend beyond technical aspects and hold significant advantages from a business perspective. For instance, in the past, dedicated hardware was prevalent, leading to excessive investments in equipment due to software updates and component replacements. Multiple vendors with individual specifications also contributed to substantial operational costs. Therefore, adopting virtualization technology provides substantial cost reductions and draws attention to the openness of interfaces among different vendors associated with software-based approaches.
In particular, the international organization known as the "O-RAN Alliance" has gained prominence in recent years, advocating for the openness and intelligence of RAN. A synergistic effect can be achieved by combining virtualization and Open RAN, making it a potent technological combination. This paper introduces the O-RAN-based edge cloud proof-of-concept fieldwork aimed at Beyond 5G and discusses directions for future research, including V2X and UAV technologies.
