A Method for Detecting Persons Behind Walls using Pulse Radar

(in English) This paper proposes a method to detect objects behind a wall by analyzing the round-trip time of a radio pulse wave. Additionally, the paper aims to estimate whether the detected object is a person or a household goods by analyzing the reflected wave in details. To achieve this, the proposed estimation model uses three key features: reflected wave strength, variations in wave strength due to signal generator performance, and variations in phase caused by human breathing and fluctuations in the center of gravity. The estimation model is selected using the cross-validation method. Experimental results demonstrate that the system accurately detects stationary people and objects behind a wall in a 3-meter anechoic chamber, while also reliably estimating human movements such as bending and walking.
