The optimization of the aperture distribution using the steepest descent method is investigated, assuming that the vertical pattern of an experimental array antenna has a cosecant square characteristic for receiving 1090MHz mode S signals from aircraft. Furthermore, we also investigated a design method that includes suppression of ground reflections, and optimization using a moment method to consider the effects of mutual-element coupling, and the effectiveness of dummy elements to reduce differences in element patterns at the ends of the array. Furthermore, we also considered the case of horizontal pattern beam scanning using an array antenna. |
