A Link Load Balancing Method in Elastic Optical Networks Using Superposition Coding

(in English) In the field of optical backbone networks, elastic optical network (EON) has been attracting attention as a new technique to cope with rapidly increasing communication traffic. Previous studies have proposed a path establishment method that applies superposition coding to EON. These studies have primarily focused on the case where superposition coding is applied by accommodation of new paths and reallocation of existing paths, and they showed a reduction of the call blocking probability and a suppression of frequency fragmentation. However, previous studies did not sufficiently consider the behavior when superposition coding cannot be applied and the new request is accommodated as a normal path. Therefore, the normal paths that are accommodated by shortest route were concentrated on some links, and this was one of the reasons for rejection of the new requests. This study aims to distribute the biased link load in order to reduce the call blocking probability, and proposes a link load balancing method which selects a route by the path cost based on the network condition. As a result of simulation evaluation, this proposed method could distribute the biased link load and reduce the call blocking probability.
