We are in the development of sub-terahertz antennas in 300 GHz band. Technical problems in this frequency band are picked up and are presented from our experiences in this work. Lens antennas are advantageous at the points of low loss and high efficiency even in the sub-terahertz band. However, low profile is an essential problem for lens antennas. Planar antennas can be formed in a printed substrate. However, the feeding loss is high due to the significant transmission loss in the planar line. The wavelength becomes shorter than the dimensions of the RF circuit. Grating lobes are a serious problem in the development of phased array antennas. The development of low-profile lens antennas, low-loss planar antennas and phased arrays without grating lobes were demonstrated in this report. |
