Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) At the time of March 2022, the population coverage of base stations in the 28GHz band was reported to be 0% for all carriers. In an effort to improve the base station's coverage, a preliminary study was conducted on antennas integrated with the exterior of residential buildings. First, a simulation was performed to design a 28GHz patch antenna, and it was confirmed that the S11 was -20dB. However, due to measurement system limitations up to 1000MHz, the frequency was set to 800MHz, and the design of the patch antenna was carried out. At that time, the S11 was confirmed to be -20dB. Since both the 800MHz and 28GHz patch antennas had an S11 of -20dB, it was decided to prototype and evaluate the 800MHz antenna. Two antenna shapes, the patch antenna and the meander-line antenna, were prototyped, and the S11 was confirmed through conducted immunity testing. The meander-line antenna showed -20dB, but the patch antenna couldn't achieve -20dB, so it was decided to proceed with radiation testing for the meander-line antenna only. The meander-line antenna showed an output of 30μV/m for both horizontal and vertical polarization at -20dBm.Previous base station antennas had a configuration with a gap of at least 0.5λ between the antenna and the reflector. Therefore, radiation testing of the meander-line antenna integrated with the building's exterior, eliminating the gap, was conducted. With horizontal polarization at 30μV/m and vertical polarization at 35μV/m, an increase in output of 5μV/m was confirmed by integrating the antenna with the building's exterior, demonstrating the utility of the antenna and building integration structure.
