Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Non-destructive testing is an important technique for the safe and long-term use of structures. For example, large metal plate structures such as pipes and tanks in chemical plants and power stations are subject to thinning inside the structures due to the effects of corrosive liquids and fluids. Detecting these thinning and repairing them as necessary can extend the service life of structures. On the other hand, such structures are generally large. This causes a problem of prolonged testing times due to the large testing area. In order to solve such problems, it is necessary to testing the large area with high efficiency. As one method, we have proposed the non-contact non-destructive testing method that combines the Scanning Airborne Ultrasound Source technique (SAS) and the Nonlinear Harmonic Method (NHM). In this report, we verified a pulse inversion method using the nonlinearity of high-intensity airborne ultrasound with the aim of improving the signal-to-noise ratio in high-speed non-destructive testing using SAS and NHM.
