In Japan, it is becoming difficult to maintain stable logistics services, and local transportation services such as route buses and railways, due to the progress of labor shortage and regional depopulation caused by declining birthrate and aging population. In order to contribute to the realization of sustainable logistics and regional transportation services, we are working on technology research and developments of ultra-reliable and low latency vehicular communications towards application to automated follower platooning for trucks or busses. On the other hand, SRv6 Mobile User Plane (MUP) that integrates 3GPP based mobile network with Segment Routing over IPv6 (SRv6), is proposed for implementing enhanced 5G functionality. SRv6 MUP is equipped with stateless translation functionality between SRv6 and GTP-U by integrating 3GPP based mobile network Control-Plane to IP routing technologies. SRv6 MUP efficiently enables edge computings and UE-to-UE communications via radio base station with the shortest packet route, by the function of advertising the IP routing information to the wired transport network among base stations and mobile core nodes, since the SRv6 MUP architecture is designed to be pluggable user plane part of existing mobile network architectures and it does not require any impacts to the specifications of the existing user terminals, base stations and core nodes. This report presents R&D activities on V2N/V2N2V communication latency reduction technology using SRv6 MUP for automated follower platooning. Moreover, it also presents field evaluation results of low latency in-vehicle UE-to-UE communication using SRv6 MUP under a commercial 5G Standalone network environment assuming application to low-latency V2N2V for the platooning. |
