Many methods have been proposed to compute the imaginary-time evolution with high accuracy using a fault-tolerant quantum computer. Among them, a method to calculate imaginary-time evolution by complex integration of real-time evolution has recently been proposed. On the other hand, an imaginary-time evolution algorithm using a variational quantum circuit with a noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) computer has also been proposed. However, it is difficult to achieve high accuracy in the conventional NISQ algorithm because its performance strongly depends on the ansatz quantum circuit.
In this presentation, we propose a new method for computing imaginary-time evolution using a quantum simulator.
A quantum simulator is a device that implements only the natural time evolution of the Hamiltonian due to two-body interactions and local magnetic fields, and a single qubit operation.
Compared to fault-tolerant quantum computers, which require a large number of high-precision gate operations on a large number of qubits, the experimental hurdles required are lower.
In addition, this method does not use a variational method, but rather a method of converting the time evolution into imaginary-time evolution through complex integration, which can achieve high accuracy. |
