In the realm of qubit state tomography, the accurate estimation of quantum states parameterized across the complete Bloch sphere holds great significance. A pivotal aspect in this pursuit lies in the designing of estimators.
The choice of an estimator crucially involves the minimization of mean squared error, often achieved by minimizing the weighted trace of the inverse of the Fisher information matrix.
To assess optimality, a key benchmark is established by comparing the optimal value against the Nagaoka bound. Distinguished with the Holevo bound, the Nagaoka bound is particularly well-suited for finite collective measurements.
In this presentation, we are focusing on the two-parameter problem, specifically the subspace of the three-dimensional representation of the Stokes parameter. While prior work has presented optimal measurements within a randomized measurement, it is noted that the size of these measurements is not minimal. This presentation seeks to address this gap by providing the analytical form of the optimal measurement with minimal size. Furthermore, the proof of necessary and sufficient conditions for optimality is established.
Remarkably, the optimal measurement exhibits a symmetric structure and involves specific free variables, thereby offering insights into the structure of all optimal measurements. |
