Polar codes are error correcting codes proposed by Arikan, and various decoding schemes have been proposed to achieve excellent error rate performance in short code lengths. On the other hand, BCH code are also used for short code lengths and provide great error rate performance. In general, since the error rate performance of error correcting codes vary depending on the decoding method, frame format, etc. Therefore, it is necessary to compare the error rate performance of Polar and BCH codes according to the actual frame format to evaluate which has better error rate performance. In this paper, we compare the error rate performance of Polar and BCH codes using the frame format of IEEE802.15.6, the international standard for body area network, one of the communication standards that use short code lengths. Simulation results show that the list decoding of CRC-aided Polar codes, Polarization-adjusted convolutional, has better error rate performance than the error rate performance of
soft-decoded BCH codes. |
