Multi-Cell Expansion Technology for Dynamic Full-Duplex Cellular System on 5G Uplink by Distributing Base Station Reception Function

(in English) To accommodate increasing data traffic, in-band full-duplex has attracted much attention because of the improved spectral utilization efficiency, which can ideally achieve twice the throughput. In particular, it has been shown that the dynamic full-duplex cellular (DDC) system with distributed receive-only base stations (BSs) can improve the throughput compared to the conventional DDC system in a single-cell environment. This is because distributed receive-only BSs can reduce self-interference by separating the radio unit (RU) into transmit-only RU (TRU) and receive-only RU (RRU). On the other hand, in a multi-cell environment, interference from other cells reduces the throughput. To solve this problem, this report proposes a novel multi-cell DDC system with distributed receive-only BSs whose antenna configuration takes interference from other cells into account. In the proposed system, directional RRUs are distributed at the sector edges to mitigate interference from other cells compared to the conventional distributed BS system. To evaluate the proposed method, computer simulation is conducted in a multi-cell environment when downlink (DL) communication is superimposed on 5G uplink (UL) subframes, and it is shown that the proposed DDC system is effective in improving both UL and DL throughput.
