An encryption method of JPEG bitstreams for partially disclosing visual information

(in English) In this paper, we propose an encryption method for JPEG codestreams in which the file size is invariant before and after encryption. The restrictions associated with encryption are relaxed from two points of view. The proposed method uses a code called a restart marker that can be inserted at regular intervals between Minimum Coded Units (MCUs). This allows us to define extended blocks separated by restart markers, and to spatially mix encrypted and unencrypted regions. In addition, the positions of these extended blocks can be randomly interchanged. This is expected to improve the resistance against visual information recovery attacks. We confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method through simulations.
