A Study on Autoencoder for Iterative Signal Detection in MIMO Channels

(in English) In this paper, we apply deep unfolding to uplink signal detection via probabilistic data association (PDA) and configure the modulator as a neural network (NN). The entire communication system including these components is configured as an autoencoder to improve PDA detection performance.
As a signal detection method for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications, PDA, a type of statistical iterative signal detection scheme, is effective in terms of computational complexity and detection accuracy.
PDA is not expected to improve the convergence property by propagating external values, and the detection performance may be degraded by outliers in the soft estimates (replicas) of the transmitted signal.
Adaptively scaled belief (ASB) has been reported as an effective countermeasure.
In this paper, we apply deep unfolding, a type of deep learning, to PDA to optimize the scaling factor of ASB, and design a signal constellation that suppresses the soft replica outliers by configuring the modulator with NN.
The entire communication system, including the transmitter and receiver, is configured as the autoencoder to improve the symbol error rate (SER).
