Time-Gated Digital Optical Frequency Domain Reflectometry (TGD-OFDR) uses frequency-chirped optical pulses with time widths of several to several tens of microseconds as a probe light to measure the intensity and phase of Rayleigh reflected light from a sensing fiber under test (FUT), where digital signal processing is performed on the beat signal between the reflected light and a constant frequency reference light. Compared to the ordinary optical time-domain reflectometry (OTDR), TGD-OFDR has features such as the ability to measure over a long range while maintaining high spatial resolution. In this report, we study a TGD-OFDR using a sinusoidally frequency-modulated pulses as the probe light, and discuss whether reflections from pulses having the same frequency but chirps with opposite signs can be detected independently. |
