Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In today's aging society with a declining birthrate, early-detection, prevention, and recovery of/from frailty of physical and mental functions, which falls between “healthy states” and “states requiring nursing care,” are urgently needed. For this reason, we are developing a virtual calligraphy system using haptic sense as one of our support systems. The system uses haptic devices to provide users with feelings similar to those of actual calligraphy, and it can measure the deviations of lines from models and the pressure of strokes for the early-detection, prevention, and recovery of/from frailty. In this report, we analyze results of a usability study conducted on the system for end-users 40 years or older.
