The degree of synchronization of regional brain activities (i.e., functional connectivity) always fluctuates over time, even during the resting state. In this talk, I will present a series of studies focusing on the global state fluctuations in functional brain networks, whose edges are defined as time-resolved resting-state functional connectivity. Specifically, I will talk about 1) studies that characterize the state fluctuations using the methodology of network science, 2) a study that simulates the characterized properties using nonlinear dynamical models of the macroscopic dynamics of neuronal populations, and 3) a study that clarifies the model elements that contribute to the generation of global state fluctuations in simulated resting-state functional brain networks by manipulating the elements in the model simulation system and examining their responses. |
