To enhance the reliability of distributed systems composed of multiple
nodes, ensuring reliable message communication between nodes is
crucial. Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) is widely employed as a
mechanism to detect message corruption transmitted between
nodes. Achieving a high-reliability system necessitates a precise
understanding of CRC's error detection capabilities. The error
detection capability of CRC is determined by the Hamming weight HW(L,
n), which represents the number of codewords with Hamming distance
n in messages of length L. However, accurately determining HW(L,
n) for large values of message length L and error bit number n is
challenging due to computational complexity. For instance,
experimental measurement of Hamming weight requires examining {}_L
C_n possibilities, and for certain values of message length L and
error bit number n, exhaustive examination becomes impractical. To
accurately comprehend CRC's error detection capability, it is
essential to estimate HW(L, n) for large values of message length
L and error bit number n. This paper, therefore, investigates the
possibility of estimating unknown HW(L, n) for message lengths L
and error bit numbers n using known HW(L, n) as training data. |
