Various technologies are being developed to reconstruct visual function, including retinal chips, iPS cells, and optogenetic techniques. Animal experiments using rodents and other animals are essential in research, but quantitatively evaluating animal visual function takes work. We have proposed a method for quantitative evaluation of visual function based on retinotopic maps of the visual cortex, which are estimated using neural responses of the visual system. In order to follow up the recovery process of visual function, minimally invasive and repeatable experiments are needed, which require estimation of the retinotopic map in the awake state, which has been difficult with conventional methods. We have developed a new method for retinotopic map estimation that solves this problem. In this presentation, we will introduce the method and the results obtained by applying it to animals. |
