A Control Method for Bodily Sensory Reproduction Player of Windsurfing Considering Frequency Characteristics of Athlete's Swaying/Tilting Sensation

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We have been developing a player that can reproduce the athlete's bodily sensations of a wind surfing, enabling the athlete to relive the operation of the gear at sea by himself, herself or others. The issue with this player is that the range of motion of the actuators are limited, and it is not possible to fully reproduce the movement of the gear at sea. This paper proposes a method of controlling the player’s chassis that does not impair the experience of boarding the player by processing data appropriately according to the range of motion. This paper also reports an evaluation experiment involving 11 participants and a case study with two professional and top amateur athletes with the proposed method. The results indicate that the proposed method is more effective than conventional methods in controlling the chassis without impairing the experience of participants and athletes.
