Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We have reported that the Hole-Assist (HA) structure with a small diameter core and a low refractive index difference core can be expected to reduce Rayleigh scattering loss by 0.03 dB/km at a wavelength of 1.31 µm. In this study, we numerically investigate the figure of merit (FOM) of in terms of optical signal to noise ratio improvement for HA-single mode fiber (HA-SMF) with GeO2 and SiO2 cores and its wavelength dependence. We show that FOM improvement of 3 to 4 dB compared to conventional SMF can be expected for both GeO2 and SiO2 cores and in both the 1.31 and 1.55 µm wavelength bands.
