In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for personal authentication using biological information such as fingerprints, faces, palmprints and iris. In general, conventional authentication involves first extracting geometric features from a scanned image. Then, authentication is performed by matching the features at the time of enrollment with those at the time of authentication. On the other hand, this paper proposes a personal authentication method by both palm and back of the hand that directly matches images without extracting geometric features. In our method, images of the palm and back of the hand are taken with a smartphone, processed into grayscale and edge-extracted images, and the images are divided into training images for machine learning and images for evaluation. The training images are machine learned using deep learning (CNN), which is widely used in image recognition, and are evaluated using the images of evaluation. By combining the increased batch sizes, the number of divisions of the input data during the machine learning, as 32, 64, 128, 256 and the increased image sizes during the machine learning of 32 × 32, 64 × 64, 128 × 128pixels, we can achieve high authentication accuracy even with an image size as low as 64 × 64 pixels by using both palm and back of the hand images for evaluation. |
