Implementation and Evaluation of Privacy-Preserving Image Transformation Methods for Person Re-identification

(in English) Advances in machine learning have enabled high-accuracy tracking of individuals using surveillance cameras, making the development of privacy-preserving methods for such technology a critical issue. While image processing techniques such as blurring and pixelation have been proposed as privacy-preserving methods for person re-identification, these techniques have been found to create a trade-off between protection rate and re-identification accuracy. In this paper, we implement and evaluate two machine learning-based image processing methods that have achieved high protection rates and accuracy in privacy preservation for face and image recognition. Our results indicate that the first method, Learnable Privacy Budgets in Frequency Domain, provides a high protection rate, but it lacks accuracy and takes a long processing time. Additionally, our results show that the second method, Protective Perturbation, offers a high protection rate and accuracy, and possesses fast processing performance. However, there is a problem in that specific colors are hard to be process, resulting in the original colors being left intact.
