Method to reduce imbalance charges for electricity retailers using EVs, aiming to balance the interests of both electricity retailers and EV users

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The recent increase in variable renewable energies (VRE) such as solar power has caused the need to increase the capacity to adjust supply and demand to absorb fluctuations in power generation that cannot be accurately predicted, and as the installation of variable renewable energies increases, the costs due to variability, known as integration costs, increase and the total cost of generation rises. On the other hand, research is being conducted on V2G (Vehicle to Grid) technology, which connects the batteries in EVs to the grid and utilises them for regulating power. The profitability of this technology is an issue. This research proposes a method that uses EVs as a regulating power when it is profitable for both the electricity retailer and the EVs, and determines who adjusts the supply-demand balance by an auction with bidding prices determined by a scheduling algorithm that is executed in a distributed way. The simulation shows that the benefits for both EV users and retail electricity providers are achieved, and the effectiveness of the proposed method is shown.
