As a countermeasure against router targeting malware, we have been studying a metabolic-type router. In this metabolic-type router, one of the redundant virtual routers is initialized. In addition, this initialized virtual router is switched to the other active virtual router. By repeating these processes, even hard-to-detect malware can be removed. However, malware may attempt to spread infection by exploiting communication between virtual routers. Such malware spreading can be prevented by blocking communication between virtual routers. However, the division of roles between the active router and the standby router cannot be determined. To solve this problem, we design a scheme that determines the division of roles between an active router and a standby router using the centralized controller. Design concepts of this scheme are following four: (1) limiting communication between virtual routers, (2) determining active router, (3) notifying active router change, (4) blocking the illegal active router change notification. These functions are performed by the centralized controller. The combination of them can switch an active router with suppress malware spreading. |
