Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) A fault attack is an attack that intentionally injects a fault into an operating device in order to leak internal confidential information. In particular, a laser fault attack is a very powerful fault injection method with excellent temporal and spatial controllability, and can cause both temporary and persistent failures in circuits on FPGAs. A digital sensor capable of detecting laser irradiation composed of a ring oscillator has been proposed to address these threats. This paper proposes a ring oscillator-based sensor that can detect laser radiation with high sensitivity by using the CARRY logic in FPGAs. The average laser detection rate was from 38.4% to 63.2%, and the average alarm-to-fault ratio was from 31.6 to 53.4, indicating that the proposed implementation is more sensitive and effective than those in previous studies.
