The Impact of Network Quality on Video Transmission Using 802.11ah

(in English) In various industrial sectors and in our daily lives, the use of IoT (Internet of Things) is rapidly progressing. The communication standards for IoT have been well-known, such as LoRa, Sigfox, Zigbee, BLE, and others that fall under the category of LPWA (Low Power Wide Area). The IEEE standard 802.11ah is a new Wi-Fi standard approved in Japan in September 2022. It has a wide transmission area and can communicate over a range of about 1 km. In this paper, we focus on the features of 802.11ah, which include a broader transmission range compared to typical Wi-Fi and the capability to achieve throughput of a few Mbps, making it suitable for images and videos. We conducted a performance evaluation focusing on video transmission in real-world environments with regard to communication speed and achievable communication distance.
