Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Humans not only listen to music but can also recall music in their minds. It is known that electroencephalogram (EEG) power is increased, and the motor cortex is activated during music recall. However, the effects of familiarity with music on brain responses during music recall have not been clarified. This paper hypothesized that familiarity with the music would cause differences in brain responses during music recall and analyzed EEG during recall of familiar and unfamiliar music. The results showed that alpha and low-beta power increased during familiar music recall, event-related potentials were evoked, and information flowed between the sensory-motor and auditory cortices during melody recall. These brain responses were suggested to be specific to melodic recall because familiar music can be recalled.
