Effects of inductance and surrounding gas on DC break arc discharge
Shion Ozaki, Kiyoshi Yoshida (NIT) EMD2023-43
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The effects of resistive load and inductance on arc discharge during DC power cut-off were investigated. A small electromagnetic contactor was installed in the ambient atmosphere variable chamber, source voltage E was set to 200V DC, and closed contact current Io was set to 1 to 30A. There were two types of surrounding gas: clean air and hydrogen. The atmospheric pressure was set at 0.5, 1, 2, and 4 atm. The experiments were conducted six times at each closed contact current I₀ under each load condition and surrounding gas, and the arc discharge at breaking was observed. As a result, regardless of the gas, the higher the gas pressure, the shorter the arc duration, and by adding inductance, the arc duration became longer. In clean air, arc discharge continued at a closing current of 10A or more, making it impossible to breaking.
