Weighted Harmonic Mean Method based on RTT Difference in TCP Flows for Wi-Fi AP Selection by User Cooperative Mobility

(in English) We develop an access point (AP) selection method by User-Cooperative Mobility for TCP flows with different RTTs, which considers not only the link speed of Wi-Fi but also the RTT difference to obtain a throughput as close to the optimal as possible for the target user. Conventional AP selection methods that assume UDP flows are not effective when the bandwidth utilization of each flow varies with RTT. This is because TCP flows with shorter RTTs are more likely to occupy more bandwidth. Therefore, the proposed method provides effective AP selection with User-Cooperative Mobility for TCP flows. The method uses estimated throughput as a criterion to select the best AP by calculating from the weighted harmonic mean. The weight is set to be larger for flows with shorter RTT. To evaluate the proposed method, we conducted simulations with a simple model in which two users, the target user and another user, are connected to Aps in various distances. The results show that the proposed method improves throughput (accuracy) by up to 25-29% compared to UDP-like methods and random AP selection, indicating the effectiveness of the proposed method.
