In this study, we investigate a system that shares activity information of the other party using sensors and conversational agents to facilitate the beginning of conversations between elderly individual living alone and their child who live apart. We conducted an experiment by implementing the system for two weeks with elderly woman and their daughter as subjects, analyzing actions and situations that lead to the beginning of remote communication. Through system logs, daily activity records, and interviews, it was demonstrated as a case that casual communication via video calls can start naturally within the flow of circumstances. By examining the beginnings of video calls in relation to Schegloff's sequence for the opening of telephone conversations, the significance of sensors and agents was suggested. |
