A Study on Cloud-Based Image Generation Using Spot Instances

(in English) Recently, cloud computing has become an important service in the IT industry. However, there is a challenge for organizations to reduce the cost of cloud computing. Spot instances are attracting attention as a way to reduce costs. Spot instances are virtual machines that are priced at a significant discount despite possible interruptions.
In this study, we propose a method that allows spot instances to be treated like existing serverless computing for cloud-based image generation. It is found that the proposed method can be used for about 3,000 requests per month, which is the same price as existing serverless systems. We also show that a simple algorithm can be used to select spot instances with low interruption probability. It is expected that this research will lead to the development of further frameworks that utilize spot instances.
