An always-dual-path hybrid (ADPH) DC-DC converter with soft charging simultaneously reduces inductor current and suppresses spike current from switched capacitors, contributing to smaller converter size and higher efficiency. However, since the detailed parameter design for soft charging operation has not been clarified, this paper proposes a sub-inductor selection method and switching frequency design guidelines based on the experimental results. This paper assesses the efficacy of soft charging operations using multiple types of sub-inductors under various conditions and proposes a design guideline for the sub-inductor and switching frequency based on a comparison of the measured current waveforms and efficiency characteristics. |
