The demand for Internet of Things (IoT) has recently increased. IoT collects and processes information by connecting the Internet to devices such as sensors and meters. Wireless Smart Utility Network (Wi-SUN) is attracting attentions as a wireless communication standard for IoT. Currently, Wi-SUN is based on IEEE 802.15.4 SUN-compliant Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) and is being studied for use in the Ultra High Frequency (UHF) band. However, as demand in the IoT market grows, there is a need to expand to wide area mobile communications over 10 km, and the introduction of the Very High Frequency (VHF) band and stronger error correction codes is being considered to meet this demand. For the evaluation of SUN FSK, experimental evaluation platforms based on software defined radio (SDR) have not yet been developed. In this paper, we propose a receiving signal processing scheme including a packet detection method for the experimental evaluation of IEEE 802.15.4 SUN FSK in the VHF band under the asynchronous transmission and reception environment, develop an experimental evaluation platform based on a software defined radio equipped with the proposed scheme, and evaluate the transmission characteristics in an outdoor environment. |
