Reinforcement learning (RL) has been attracting much more attention as a promising approach to realize RSA/RWA. However, the performance of benchmarking heuristics strongly depends on the network topology. To assess the effectiveness of recent progress in RL-based RWA/RSA algorithms and justify their introduction, it is crucial to clarify how traditional heuristics approach the capacity bounds and estimate the room for improvement available to RL-based algorithms. In this paper, we propose a method for elastic optical network capacity upper bound estimation based on cut-set analysis. Numerical simulations using various network topologies elucidate that the gap to the bound is 10% and the room for improvement is quite limited. |
