Silicon photonics is based on electronic circuit technology and makes it possible to make optical circuits smaller, save energy, and lower costs, as well as enable optoelectronic integration. Silicon photonics is already being used in communication equipment between servers in data centers, and research and development is underway for wiring inside servers, boards, and packages. In addition, sensing applications such as LiDAR and medical equipment, as well as applications in arithmetic processing circuits such as optical AI and quantum circuits, are being considered. In this presentation, trends in research using heterogeneous material integration technology based on silicon photonics were explained. In addition, our research on heterogeneous material integrated optical devices were introduced. |
