A Time-alignment Method of Multiple Power Delay Profiles Measured by Antenna Rotations Towards Flexible Terahertz Channel Measurements

(in English) Sub-Terahertz (THz) communication has been attracting attention due to its ability to utilize broad bandwidth, enabling low-latency and high-bitrate communication. Towards realizing sub-THz communication, the usage of directional antennas is considered. In order to evaluate such directional communication systems via link-level simulation, statistical modeling of multi-path propagation including temporal and spatial characteristics is required. To fulfill the requirement, measurements of the power angular delay profile (PADP) should be conducted by leveraging rotatable directional antennas and measuring the power delay profile (PDP) for each antenna rotation angle. Generally, PDAPs should be formed by the PDPs with the common time axes to allow the comparison between paths observed in different angles in terms of propagation delay time. However, this requires hardware synchronization such as wired connection or clock synchronization, which may harm the flexibility of the measurements. In this report, we propose a time alignment method of PADP without the use of hardware synchronization and evaluate the time alignment accuracy by 105 GHz-band measurement in the indoor personal desktop environment. The measurement result is evaluated by the comparison to the measurement with hardware synchronization via a wired connection between the transmitter and receiver.
