Improved Accuracy of AOA Estimation of Moving Object in Nakagami-Rice Propagation Environments

(in English) To ensure the success of upcoming car-to-car networks, we are developing a 4 × 4 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna that can control the beam direction depending on the estimated incoming wave angle. In this paper, we investigate an angle-of-arrival (AOA) estimation system of proposed antenna in Nakagami-Rice propagation environment. By applying the method to eliminate the phase difference ambiguity through the use of eight independent beams with 45° intervals and the method to exclude the uncertain data, we estimate the direction of communication target in a Rician fading channel, where the received signal is composed of both a coherent line-of-sight (LOS) component and random multipath scattered fields. The analytical results through a Monte Calro simulation reveal that a high accuracy of AOA estimation can be achieved using the proposed methods, even in the case of a severe Nakagami-Rice fading channel, where a LOS component is small.
