Optically powered antenna unit with remotely optical amplification using a multi core fiber

(in English) We experimentally demonstrate a simultaneous transmission of data signal, feed light and pump light using a multi-core fiber (MCF). The pump light is used to remotely amplify the data signal at the input of the light and feed a downlink receiver. This eliminates the need for electrical amplifiers in the remote antenna units (RAU), and is expected to improve the power efficiency of the signal amplification and reduce the cost. In addition, the feed light is used to drive a photodiode without any external power supply, and the configuration of the system is expected to be simplified. In this study, we experimentally demonstrate simultaneous radio-/pump-/power-over-fiber transmission using a 500 m MCF.
