JPEG Compression Quality Setting Considering Image Quality and Information Loss for Correlated Steganography

(in English) As more and more confidential information, including personal information, is transmitted and received over the Internet, there is a growing interest in information protection. Many proposals have been made for steganography, an information protection technique that conceals information in multimedia data.

In existing correlated steganography, M’-sequence information encoding and embedding in the DCT domain have been shown to improve confidentiality. However, the compression resistance of images with embedded information has not yet been verified. Therefore, there is a problem of not knowing whether the embedded information can be extracted correctly when the image is compressed to reduce the amount of information in the communication channel. In addition, image quality degradation can easily expose the use of steganography, so it is important to minimize image quality to the maximum extent possible in order to improve confidentiality. However, existing methods have not been able to verify how image quality changes after compression.
This study evaluates compression resistance based on image quality and information recovery rate by varying the frequency band used for information embedding and compression quality. We also propose an algorithm that provides the maximum compression ratio that is compression tolerant in correlated steganography.
