Statistics of the maximum rainfall for N years in Japan

(in English) We investigate the statistical properties of extreme rainfall data (annual maximum values) in Japan. This report is a sequel to the previous report. The research field of meteorological phenomena that affect radio wave propagation characteristics is called radio meteorology, and rainfall, which causes radio wave attenuation, is a typical example. The previous report focuses on precipitation in Japan and investigates the long-term change trends in annual maximum value data by estimating confidence intervals. The Japan Meteorological Agency has published over 100 years of long-term meteorological data on its website, and we used the daily, hourly, and 10-minute maximum precipitation for each year. In this report, we will use the same data to investigate the characteristics of the worst value of heavy rain that occurs once in N years, such as 10, 100, or 1,000 years. This information will help us prepare for unexpected events. Extreme value statistics represented by Gumbel distribution are useful for this analysis.
