EM/circuit Co-analysis of Mode Conversion due to Continuous Imbalance-factor Change in a Three-conductor Transmission Line System

(in English) The direct connection of a microstrip line and a parallel two-wire cable with different imbalance factors causes mode conversion depending on the difference in imbalance factor, which is examined in this study for the immunity evaluation system of a three-conductor transmission line system. First, it is shown that when the parallel two-wire cable and the system ground are placed vertically, mode conversion occurs due to continuous change in the imbalance-factor difference when the distance between them changes continuously, while no mode conversion occurs when they are placed horizontally. Next, a coupled EM/circuit co-simulation is applied to the modal equivalent circuit model that represents this continuous change in imbalance factor by a staircase approximation. It is shown that the results are equivalent to those of the full-wave analysis by evaluating the differential-mode voltage generated by the mode conversion with the common-mode excitation of the evaluation system by a current probe. Furthermore, by examining the common-mode currents at each mode conversion position, the degree of influence on the entire evaluation system from each mode conversion position is determined.
