Centralized Radio Access Networks (C-RANs) have been considered to accommodate the increasing mobile traffic year by year. C-RAN improves system capacity by distributing traffic through the superimposition of many small cells in addition to macrocell base stations. However, the traffic offloading effect has not been sufficient because the traffic fluctuates depending on the location and time of day. The authors have proposed an adaptive C-RAN configuration using crowdsourced radio units (CRUs) installed in vehicles. The CRUs can construct small cells according to the fluctuating communication demand, enabling adaptive C-RAN configurations to be constructed. This report shows that the throughput can be improved by changing the number of CRUs to be activated according to the difference in communication demand by wireless system level simulation and discussing future prospects. |
