Adaptive large neighborhood search for vehicle routing problem with drones

(in English) In recent years, the number of package deliveries has increased dramatically, and the shortage of delivery drivers has become a serious problem. As a result, the transportation industry is looking for more efficient delivery methods.Under these circumstances, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones, is attracting attention. A Vehicle Routing Problem with Drones (VRPD) has already been proposed that takes into account the use of drones. The objective of this problem is to minimize the cost, including fuel and time, required to deliver packages. An adaptive large neighborhood search method is proposed as a solution to this problem. However, this method always removes customers from the delivery path at the same rate, making it difficult to move to a good solution if the solution search is not successful.In this report, we propose a method to dynamically change the solution search area according to the solution performance, and evaluate its performance. Numerical experiments confirm that the proposed method has a smaller variance than the conventional method, and successfully obtains a smaller value of the objective function.
