Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) As the demand for mental health care continues to rise annually, there is growing consideration for employing robots in providing mental health support for the elderly. Otsu et al. (2024) showcased the potential of alleviating negative moods through the utilization of a chatbot on the LINE application, offering counseling services to the elderly. However, it remains unexplored whether similar effects can be achieved with a physical robot incorporating features like gestures. Based on this premise, the study aimed to investigate the appropriate dialogue technique for enhancing the consultant's mood when interacting with a robot agent. We conducted experiments using a problem-focused approach (PFA condition), involving analysis of the consultant's issues and exploration of their causes, and a solution-focused approach (SFA condition), emphasizing actions toward an ideal future. The results revealed a significant disparity between the two conditions. While no statistical distinction was observed between them, the findings implied that the PFA condition potentially uplifted the consultant's mood and positively influenced the robot's perception of the consultant through dialogue. In conclusion, the study suggests the potential effectiveness of robots in improving consultants' moods, albeit without statistically significant differences. Future endeavors should focus on developing systems capable of more adaptable dialogue and evaluating the efficacy of diverse dialogue techniques.
